CipherOptics receives Common Criteria certification for industry leading IP Security Gateways

Raleigh, N.C. (Jan. 23, 2006) - CipherOptics Inc., the leading innovator of solutions for Protecting Data in Motion™, announced today that it has received one of the first Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2 certifications for its Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet IPSec extensible security gateways. The Common Criteria certification validates that CipherOptics solutions meet the comprehensive standards set by the international Common Criteria committee and validates CipherOptics products as best in breed.

“Receiving the Common Criteria certification is a significant milestone for CipherOptics and points to the high standards we adhere to in developing our data protection solutions,” said Dennis Toothman, founder and CTO, CipherOptics. “The Common Criteria certification positions CipherOptics as a leading security vendor, one whose products are used in some of the most security-sensitive networks throughout the world.”

Unlike many industry certifications, the Common Criteria process provides customers with an independent and objective validation that a company's product meets certain levels of quality, reliability and trustworthiness. CipherOptics’ global customers can use this certification as a way of measuring CipherOptics products against the most stringent international test guidelines available.

The Common Criteria is the result of efforts to develop standards for evaluation of IT security that are useful worldwide. It is based on established security practices and guidelines that are part of existing European, US and Canadian criteria (ITSEC, TCSEC and CTCPEC respectively). The Common Criteria contributes to the development of an international standard, and opens the way to worldwide mutual recognition of evaluation results. (http://www.commoncriteriaportal.org)
